Divergent processes and trends of desertification in Inner Mongolia and Mongolia

چکیده
Desertification and the expansion of deserts are regarded as a major threat to human livelihoods ecosystem services, well achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Humans have been recognized significant agents in desert-like conditions, through agency desertification/land degradation, contributions global climate change. Yet, how desertification changes whether or change drives these processes trends over whole Mongolia Plateau is still not clear. Here we first use MODIS data for 2000–2019 assess long-term vegetation across Mongolian Plateau, both Inner PR China People's Republic. We then appied General Linear Model analyze additional attribute sets explore relationships between observed desert extent reduction their potential drivers. Results show that from 2000–2019, declined by 7%, comprised an almost 11% 5% Mongolia, degree measured cover grades, region (37.5% decline - one grade China, 28.75% Mongolia). The majority area occurs northern eastern areas Plateau. found main drivers changing because pressures on land, but increasing trend precipitation temperature, which explains 75% all changes. Besides, urbanization, population contribute most remaining Our results suggest although has primary driver severity, interventions played important role, way it intervenes intensity varies Mongolia. Human's active response land degradation contributes more restoration than

Grassland desertification by grazing and the resulting micrometeorological changes in Inner Mongolia
Overgrazing is one of the most primary causes of desertification in semi-arid zones of China. From 1992 to 1994 we conducted a grazing experiment in Naiman (lat. 42◦58′N, long. 120◦43′E, 345 m asl), Inner Mongolia, China to elucidate desertification mechanisms. Our experimental field, which was covered with some short grasses, legumes and forbs, included four plots where grazing sheep numbers d...

the objective of this study is to develop a novel methodology integrating remote sensing, geographic information system technology and local spatial autocorrelation geo-computation for quick drought assessment. one group of drought indices, based on the condition of the vegetation, includes the normalized difference vegetation index (ndvi), anomaly of normalized difference vegetation index (ndv...
متن کاملGroundwater sapping as the cause of irreversible desertification of Hunshandake Sandy Lands, Inner Mongolia, northern China.
In the middle-to-late Holocene, Earth's monsoonal regions experienced catastrophic precipitation decreases that produced green to desert state shifts. Resulting hydrologic regime change negatively impacted water availability and Neolithic cultures. Whereas mid-Holocene drying is commonly attributed to slow insolation reduction and subsequent nonlinear vegetation-atmosphere feedbacks that produc...
